Cambridge University Farm is a teaching resource to the Department of Veterinary Medicine and as such is required to be an exemplar facility and is run on a commercial basis.
We are looking for an experienced Dairyman to take the role of Dairy Farm Manager. The successful applicant will be responsible for 220 cows and followers, as well as running and maintaining four milking robots together with a 260 head sheep flock.
As Farm Manager, the successful candidate will be expected to take overall responsibility for daily organisation, management of the farm team, livestock, stock in store and future improvements in the performance of the enterprises.
Cambridge University invested in robotic milking almost 10 years ago. This very clean and innovative unit should be managed by a well organised, consistent and reliable person. Good record keeping, timeliness and an overall meticulous approach to dairy farming, are all
key characteristics of the successful applicant.
The farm is situated in Madingley, Cambridge, where there is good access to the city, local facilities and amenities as well as the A14, M11 and M1 at nearby junctions.
The successful applicant will be provided with a comfortable family home, farm vehicle and competitive salary (negotiable depending on experience).
The farm employs 4 team members on the dairy and sheep unit, and works closely with the University’s veterinary department. There is some land and estate work carried out by the team. Security and safety is of paramount, therefore regular meetings are held to ensure continuous improvement of working environments.
While experience in dairying is very important, the successful candidate will also be a sound communicator and work well within a team.
