We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Farm Manager to support staff and students in our busy Outdoor Work Department. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to join our exciting and innovative Outdoor Work department. Our aim is to become renowned for running an ethical and sustainable farm/smallholding of 50 acres that has education at its heart.
The successful candidate will work alongside the Head of Outdoor Work and members of the Outdoor Work team to ensure the delivery of first rate lessons and that the farm is managed in a safe and productive manner.
Our ideal candidate will be educated to degree level, or equivalent, ideally in agriculture or another relevant discipline. They will have extensive animal husbandry experience, including sheep, pigs, poultry and other livestock. Most importantly, they will have a flexible and enthusiastic approach to all duties associated with the running of the farm. It would be beneficial if the applicant had some experience in the use and maintenance of workshop tools/machinery, and had worked with a wide range of different materials (woods, metals and building material). It is essential that they practice excellent health and safety.
The candidate will work on a rota system that provides continuous cover for the farm and vegetable plots throughout the year. There will be a considerable amount of weekend work involved for the successful candidate who will provide care and manage all the livestock during this time, which currently includes pigs, sheep and poultry.
