Herdsperson

A vacancy has arisen on this large, forward-looking, family run dairy farm. We strive to meet the very best standards and to continually push them higher through a combination of excellent stockmanship, clear and consistent work practices and modern technology.

The basic role is to be a part of the team running our main parlour (a modern 50 point rotary). This is likely to involve working a two-week rolling shift of a basic 5 day week, alternate weekend working, 4 am starts, split shifts each working day and regular overtime. Beyond this we have the flexibility to tailor the role to the experience, interests and aspirations of the individual. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a strong work ethic, overt enthusiasm and a desire to take on responsibility and built a career with us.

The basic role will involve milking cows, moving cattle, yard scraping, looking after calves, and parlour cleaning etc, however, there are many other areas of more specific responsibility that you will have the opportunity to become involved with (eg fertility, lameness, transition, calf rearing, nutrition, herd health and welfare etc) and we will actively encourage you to do so. There are very few barriers to your ambition.

Previous experience of working with cattle, ideally dairy cattle would be advantageous but is not essential and accommodation can be offered to suitably experienced applicants. We offer a competitive salary dependent upon experience along with in-house and external training to suit the needs of the business and the individual.

An immediate start is possible but will be subject to references.

Please forward CV and/or covering letter, as appropriate.
