General Farm Worker/Assistant Herdsperson
450 COWS – Staffordshire
ORGANIC GRASS BASED SYSTEM! SPRING AND AUTUMN CALVING!
We require an enthusiastic team player with a full driving licence to fit in with the existing team, with fresh ideas and help drive the farm forward for expansion! Although previous experience would be beneficial it is not essential, and training can be provided.
The Farm and system
This is a highly successful organic dairy business near to Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire. The active owners have spent many years building the business up and consistently developed and invested into the farm and herd over the years. The herd consists of around 450 cross bred cows producing around 5,000 litres with high solids, milk is sold on a manufacturing contract to Arla. The cows are fed a primarily grass based diet with New Zealand style paddock grazing. Winter housing is provided in cubicles for all of the milking herd.
The parlour is a 24:48 Waikato with ACRs, milk meters and in parlour feeders.
Cow welfare is extremely important with regular in house foot trimming taking place, a designated foot trimmer attends the farm monthly or when required. Fertility is monitored in house using Kamars, cows are served for six weeks and then the herd runs with bulls thereafter.
About the role
The person will need to be a team player and adaptable and you will be involved in all aspects of the farm including, milking, feeding, calf rearing, herd health & fertility, general stock husbandry tasks and some tractor work.
