Technical Executive - Dairy, Beef & Lamb (Fixed term 12 months)

Red Tractor have an exciting opportunity within the Technical Team for an enthusiastic and progressive Technical Executive who has knowledge of the dairy & livestock sector and wishes to gain experience with an organisation that works with all key stakeholders in the farm and food supply chain to ensure the standards are fit for purpose and respected by the industry. This role is temporary, for a fixed term 12 months, to support maternity leave.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the development of Red Tractor dairy, beef and lamb farm standards, providing technical expertise and recommended direction for standards development
  • Prepare papers for and participate in Technical Working Groups in which changes to standards are discussed and agreed
  • Support the roll-out of the latest version of the Red Tractor farm standards (in Nov 2021), providing guidance to farmers and assessors on new requirements
  • Lead the management of the Dairy First Purchaser scheme members and ensuring the scheme rules are being met
  • Helping to identify ways of ensuring robust compliance with the standards and work with the Certification Bodies to enhance assessor performance
  • Contribute to the delivery of the wider RT Technical Strategy as a key member of the Technical team
  • Provide technical expertise to the Communications and Marketing teams to support activities
  • Representing Red Tractor externally – presenting at and attending industry and stakeholder meetings

 

Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate will have a degree (preferably in an Agriculture related subject) and have a background in agriculture, food production or livestock production gained through education, work experience or family connections. They must have the ability to confidently and credibly present both internally and externally and to build good working relationships. The role requires an ability to manage multiple projects at the same time. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, articulate, computer literate, a strategic thinker and well organised.

 

Location and Travel

Based in the London office with on average 1-2 days a week in the office and the remainder spent attending meetings elsewhere or working from home. Some travel throughout the UK may be required; travel expenses will be covered by Red Tractor (except travel to the London office). Due to the Coronavirus pandemic the RT Staff are currently based from home with meetings on-line but will return to the London office at a later date in 2021 depending on the wider situation.
