About The Role

Woolton Farm is a diversified farm business near Canterbury, Kent, combining farming with drinks production and hospitality.  

We are looking for a hands on person to take on the farm and estate maintenance work covering the following areas:

  • Heritage Cider Orchards (10 Hectares)
  • Vineyard (1 Hectare)
  • Pasture and Woodland
  • Roads, Verges and Footpaths
  • Ditches and Waterways
  • Hedges, Trees
  • Gardens and Landscaped Areas

Jobs include:

  • Mowing and pulverising
  • Pruning
  • Spraying
  • Landscaping and groundworks
  • Tree planting and cultivation
  • Fencing
  • Machinery Maintenance
  • Tree work and clearance

The successful candidate will undertake the work required but also bring in and oversee specialist contractors where appropriate.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates will be of a practical nature first and foremost but also possess the skills to be able to plan their work, keep records and independently manage contractors and projects.

  • Valid UK driving license, comfortable driving commercial vehicles; vans, pickups, towing etc
  • Tractor work - experience and competence driving tractors including tractor mounted machinery: Mowers, Trailers, Pulverizer, Cultivator etc
  • Landscaping - experience and competence operating machinery and tools: mini digger, ride on mower, hedge cutter, strimmer etc
  • Pruning - basic understanding of pruning (further training provided)
  • Tools and machinery - experience and competence using power tools, hand tools and powered machinery
  • Basic computer skills: Email, word, excel
  • Clean, tidy and well organised worker
  • Problem solver
  • Passion for the countryside and natural environment

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Chainsaw certificate
  • Fork truck license
  • Spray Certificates: Herbicide, Pesticide, Napsack
  • Vehicle Mechanics Knowledge
  • Welding and metal work
  • Any other relevant experience

Physical fitness

This is a physically demanding job with a high proportion of manual labour and operation of machinery.  Working on your feet for extended periods in the open air 12 months of the year.  Candidates must be physically able to carry out tasks at the expected work rate.

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: 3-5 days per week Mon - Friday

Salary: £20,000 - £25,000 per annum pro rata
