Herdsperson on Grass Based Dairy Farm

We require a herdsperson to work alongside the herd manager and assistant running 300 autumn calving cows and followers on 520 acres of Northamptonshire grassland. The applicant will be required to share the milking in a simple 24:48 herringbone parlour and ideally have foot trimming and AI skills alongside sound cow health experience. Machinery work involves winter scraping and operating a telehandler to block out grass and maize into troughs. Spring and summer is dominated by measuring grass and managing grazing paddocks for the cows and young-stock.

The applicant will have several years of dairying experience and be able to take responsibility for when the herd manager is off. He/she will be keen on cows and understand the demands of workload with an autumn calving herd and equally enjoy the quieter times grazing and milking in the spring and summer. A particular interest in grass and grazing will be an advantage as this is fundamental in the system. A good communicator and team player is essential in this role. On site accommodation is available.
