Herdsperson or Working Couple

Due to a change in circumstances our client is looking for a herdsperson or working couple that will work closely with the farm manger on a superb award-winning grass-based system on the Shropshire/Cheshire border.

This is an excellent grassland farm, which has hosted farm walks and talks and is well regarded as a superb farm for the type of system. The manager is looking for a dedicated herdsperson or a couple who will take an active role in the management of the cows and youngstock including milking, fertility, herd health, grassland management and general day to day running of the farm.

This is a simple spring calving system, milking approximately 500 cows through a 40: 80 herringbone parlour. Cows graze throughout the spring and summer months and are straight to grass from calving. During the winter months the cows are housed indoors and fed a simple grass-based diet with corn in the parlour.

The person or couple will need to be team player(s) and be involved in all aspects of the farm. In reward for your efforts, we will provide a lovely 2-bedroom country cottage with large garden within walking distance of the farm. The farm is 1 mile from the nearest village which has 3 pubs, shops, butchers, primary school and is a highly sought-after village to live in!  My client is offering a competitive salary of £33,000 depending on experience, bonus scheme, 2-hour lunch break and an opportunity to progress your career.

The person(s) will need to be able to take on responsibility, work within a team and alone, show initiative and be focussed on a career in dairy farming.
