Farm Traders and Trainee Farm Traders

An opportunity has arisen to join our Agronomy team in the regions of the South and West of the country on permanent full-time basis.  The successful applicant will work out of one of our commercial offices at Newbury in Berkshire, Dorchester in Dorset, and Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire. These commercial centres service all the counties of the South and West.

We are now strengthening our on-Farm team by recruiting an experienced Farm Trader. We would also consider a Trainee Farm Trader as full training would be provided.

Our Farm Traders play a key role in facilitating our business by promoting Frontier’s services and products and building outstanding customer relationships.

We are seeking candidates with the ability, skills and desire to develop a career in a commercial sales role. A background in sales is not essential as we are looking for people with a strong interest in agriculture, coupled with experience in agricultural logistics, forwarding or another similar support function.

For the right candidate, if you are more at trainee level full training will be provided and there is the potential to offer an apprenticeship.

Ideal candidate

- We are looking for candidates who area already working as a Farm Trader or who have worked in agriculture and have a good understanding of the sector; experience of working in farm management or a similar field would be highly desirable

- A strong desire to develop a career in Farm Trading

- Strong commercial acumen and awareness with previous success dealing with farmers (while not essential) would be a great advantage

- Ability to build outstanding professional relationships with customers and colleagues

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

- A high level of initiative with strong planning and organisational skills

- Good attention to detail

- Good working knowledge of Microsoft including Excel and Word

- The personal ambition, tenacity and resilience to succeed in a sales role

- To be able to actively engage in prospecting customers for Frontier

- FACTS qualification (while not essential) would be a great advantage

The role – Key responsibilities

- Promote, manage and develop Frontier’s business, products and services within an assigned sales area and to achieve agreed targets

- Have knowledge of end markets and be able to provide advice on the most appropriate management strategy for these end markets

- Working collaboratively with stakeholders and other teams to fulfil customer orders and ensuring excellent customer service

- Building a comprehensive knowledge of Frontier’s products and services in order to achieve the best commercial, quality and relationship outcomes for customers and the company

- Build relationships with experienced commercial managers, building commercial understanding alongside technical knowledge

- Liaising closely with colleagues to identify opportunities with new customers and develop relationships with existing customers, supporting a joint working approach

- Sustain and develop business relationships with existing and potential customers to facilitate the growth and development of the Frontier business

- Buy Grain, Oilseeds and Pulses from Farmer customers both established and new

- Use business information and technical knowledge to maximise the potential of each customer

- Sell seed, fertilisers and other inputs and services to farmer customers and develop new sales opportunities

- Agree terms for grain storage and handling services within guidelines agreed by the Stores Manager/Commodity Trader

- Coordinate the sampling and testing of commodities for purchase

- Gather and feedback any market or competitor information to Managers, Commodity Traders and Product Managers.
