Job Overview: Elan Valley Trust (formally known as Welsh Water Elan Trust, Charity Number 1001347) is looking to appoint an enthusiastic forward thinking Farm Manager, who can help the Trust adapt with the changing agricultural practices and habitat/conservation management. There is scope within the role for this to be suited to a developmental position (Assistant Farm Manager) or a fully developed management role for an individual with significant relevant experience.
The role will be responsible for the everyday running of the in-hand farm operations, alongside the estate shepherds, which amounts to the management of over 7,000 acres, over 2000 ewes and 50 cattle.
A vital component for this role is the management of the designated landscape in terms of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Special Protection Areas (SPAs) and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) which covers the majority of our land holdings.
Furthermore given the current crisis around climate change, net zero and carbon capture, the individual will be expected to work with the management team to further these objectives for the Trust on their land holdings and to be a showcase for neighbours.
The successful candidate will need to be an excellent communicator, with a ‘can-do’ attitude, who is able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills allied with a drive to develop and promote.
Candidates should have recognised qualifications in farm management, conservation or land agency. Significant experience equivalent to the qualifications outlined will also be acceptable.
