Rural Estate Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the newly created post of Estate Manager to join our enthusiastic team in West Dorset and Somerset.

Our Estate

Our small, 700 acre, privately owned estate, spread over three farms is all down to pasture and all grazing is currently let. There are also seven cottages. We do not run the farms for maximum commercial returns; amenity, environmental and sporting values are equally important. We are always looking to expand the estate’s activities.

The Role

You will be the first point of contact and will be responsible for the smooth running of the Estate. Working closely with the owner, you will plan and execute a management plan for all the farms, properties and activities on the estate.

Most importantly, you will be leading and managing our team of Estate workers, including our experienced farm handyman and his part time team, grooms, housekeeper and part time property team. You will also liaise closely with our well established Finance Team to ensure that all farm administration remains under control. This is a “hands-on” role where you will be managing a broad range of different people with different skills whilst also helping on the estate when needed. Support is available from a local Land Agent.

You

Along with a positive and can-do attitude, you will be a skilled and diplomatic communicator with demonstrable experience and a proven track record in the various aspects of running a rural estate. Most important is: -

a) clear evidence of strong management skills and
b) knowledge of pasture, hedgerow and stock management.

Dynamic, reliable, and calm under pressure, you’ll be ready to take responsibility and have a good eye for detail. You will possess reasonable IT skills, above all the Microsoft packages. A qualification in real estate, property management, business administration or agricultural management is useful but is not essential.

You must have a passion for rural life, including country sports. A full driving licence is essential.

The Benefits

A competitive salary, based on experience, will be offered to the right candidate together with a farm vehicle, company pension scheme and flexible working hours. A beautifully restored 4 bedroomed cottage is also available on one of our farms within the estate.

Our location

Our farms are set across various locations in the stunning West Dorset and Somerset countryside. Excellent schools, supermarkets and leisure facilities are all within a few miles with the breath-taking Jurassic coast – England’s only natural world heritage site, just a short drive away.

Next steps

If you’re looking for an exciting new challenge and believe you can fit our person specification, we’d like to hear from you.
