FARM MANAGER - RHUG ESTATE ORGANIC FARM

We are looking for a Farm Manager to run this award-winning, prestigious organic estate in North Wales. Our current manager is retiring after 30 years’ service at Rhug and the time has come to hand over the reins to the next generation. During this time, the farm has grown into a diverse business and increased in size from 930 hectares to two farms covering just over 2700 hectares producing beef, lamb, salt marsh lamb, chickens, turkeys, geese, and venison with a small herd of bison. Other activities on the Estate include carbon capture, green energy (wind - hydro - geothermal, solar and heat pumps), a retail sector including a farm shop and butchery, wholesale enterprise selling meat produced on the farm, skincare, and mining crypto currency. One high spot was that the farm enterprise was appointed a Royal Warrant in 2018.

We are looking for a dynamic, progressive person to manage the farming enterprise across the whole estate who understands profitability and yet is hands on and flexible. This is a high-profile position where brand building is important and a good awareness of environmental schemes is essential. You will be required to work closely with the Farm Manager of the coastal farm near Caernarfon and the Production Manager of the wholesale business.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for the running of the farming enterprise
  • Supervision of farm workers and organisation of staffing
  • Stocking levels and timing of purchases and sales
  • Crop production and harvesting
  • Breeding policy and maintaining good husbandry practices
  • Health and Safety across the farm
  • Maintaining records
  • Liaising with the Farm Secretary and Accountant
  • Maintaining buildings and property.
  • Keep up to date with new developments within the industry, including legislation changes and grants available.
  • Attend regular management accounts meetings and involvement in setting budgets
  • Assist with general farming work in busy periods.

The remuneration package will be tailored around your experience and includes a house on the estate.  A recognised agricultural qualification and strong practical agricultural experience would be highly desirable.
