Bluebell Dairy Farm Park (BDFP), is seeking an experienced herdsperson to lead our dairy and livestock team and to help us develop our micro dairy

BDFP first opened in 2008 as a small café and ice cream parlour. It has since developed into a thriving business. We now have a farm visitor attraction and Café, that welcomes thousands of visitors each year. We aim to be a fun day out for all the family, with a wide range of entertainment and attractions. We also have different events throughout the year including a Father Christmas Experience, Halloween Festival, Easter and many more.

Bluebells Luxury Artisan Ice Cream is made on the farm from our own cows milk. We sell our ice cream to over 200 business throughout the East Midlands. We have a small high welfare herd, for whom we are erecting new buildings to house a robotic milker. We want our cows to be the stars and focus of the attraction. We aim to deliver interactive shows and demonstrations to entertain and inform our guests. We have total control of the process with milk going from cow to cone on the farm. We are looking for the right individual to help us move to a robotic system

Scope of Job

Working with the directors and the team to provide the best levels of animal welfare. Working safely to ensure that guests are safe at all times. 

Key Objectives

  • Develop the productivity of the micro herd and the commercial farm
  • Involvement with activities and demonstrations
  • Ensure high animal welfare for all our animals (Sheep, goats, alpacas, guinea pigs, rabbits, ducks, etc.)
  • Ensure best in class standards and guest satisfaction for visitors to the farm.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety Legislation and Hygiene standards
  • Make sure that the attraction acts with ethics in line with our Brand.
  • Delivering high standards of guest satisfaction
  • Motivate, coach and develop the farm team

Main Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for the Farm Department
  • You will be responsible for our small Dairy herd and the management of the robotic milker.
  • You will be responsible for the breeding and selling of our animal collection and increasing the rare breeds available for the public to see
  • You will be responsible for paddock and grassland management.
  • You will ensure full compliance of Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. You will be responsible for carrying out Risk Assessments and creating safe working practices
