Herdsperson
Spring calving, Grazing system
Devon/Somerset border, near Wellington
Ref: HHweb2468

We have a contract vacancy for a progressive individual to complete this small team on this very well-run grazing unit running to 420 acres on the Devon Somerset border. The unit, while completely stand alone, is one of two run by the owners 20 miles apart.

The role will involve all aspects you would expect working with a spring calved herd, incorporating milking, breeding, calving, grassland management (agrinet), herd health and computerised record keeping.

Working with our exceptional herd manager, you will complement his skills and take a lead in the daily routine tasks.  The herd is made up of 350 crossbred cows calving in spring in a tight block.

All replacements are contract reared on a unit nearby.  Facilities are excellent to include a 20:40 parlour, excellent handling facilities, cubicles with some loose housing and a well thought out infrastructure of tracks and paddocks.

In return we offer a generous salary commensurate with the position and to reflect your experience, a very good 3-bedroom cottage in the nearby village, 2 miles from the farm and regular time off.  Continued professional development is very much part of this position with training and participation in discussion groups actively encouraged.

If you are a self-starter with a can-do attitude, keen on spring calving and maximising milk from grazed grass wishing to gain excellent experience within an established, profitable business then please click the apply button now.
