Job Details
We require a keen and enthusiastic assistant herdsperson for a 180-hectare farm in Dorset, milking 290 crossbred cows averaging 5,000 litres. Cows are milked 10 times per week rather than twice a day through a 22:44 herringbone parlour. The herd is Spring calving in a tight 10-week calving block. Grass based system with cows producing as much milk from grazed grass. Cows are out wintered away from the main grazing platform. The main duties will be getting involved in all aspects of the farm to include milking the cows at least 5 times per week. You will also be expected to contribute to yard scraping, feeding, calf rearing, general animal husbandry and grassland management. The person needs to be competent and comfortable with working on their own. The position would suit a local person as accommodation is not provided. For an informal discussion please contact Simon Collier on 07885 951105.
