Job Duties:

We are looking to recruit a trainee/graduate in to our expanding Rural Estates team. We are not looking for someone who ticks every box of the job outline, but someone who is enthusiastic, willing to learn and get stuck in. We will support you through your RICS APC qualifications having supported 3 team members through this process already.

We are a young dynamic team of 13 who are responsible for the management of the County Council’s 10,000+ acres of rural property assets spread across Hertfordshire.

Although the team’s office base is Hertford we actively encourage flexible and remote working, with most of the team working from home or out on site 5 days a week. We offer you a generous annual leave entitlement (28 days, with opportunities to purchase 5 extra days). We have a flexible working policy which, within reason and in line with business needs, allows you to work the 37 hours to suit you and also build up additional hours to take as a day’s leave, however we are also happy to explore flexible working arrangements such as condensed hours.

You will be joining the team at an exciting time having just kick started our latest strategic review. We are striving for a sustainable Rural Estate where there is an emphasis on protecting and enhancing nature. We are already working on projects such as carbon sequestration, biodiversity net gain and woodland planting. This role will assist with ensuring that this vision is made a reality, by inspiring and engaging tenants, implementing new schemes and policies as well as working with specialist to ensure the Estate remains at the forefront of the evolving area.

You will report to the Principal Rural Estates Officer and sit along side other Rural Estates Officers which creates a great environment to learn from and support each other as well as work through complex matters. Your work will be both interesting and rewarding with no two days the same giving you a great range of experience. Your focus will be on assisting with the day to day management of the rural property portfolio ensuring you are out on the estate getting to know our tenants and farms, you will be carrying out inspections, supporting colleagues in re-lettings and rent reviews, instructing minor repairs and much more.

We hope the successful applicant will have a passion to work within the rural sector and some knowledge of property management and the associated legal framework through your degree. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with colleagues, tenants, contractors and other internal and external professionals. You will be educated to degree standard ideally in a rural property related discipline and have recently passed your APC or have the qualifications to pass the APC on the rural pathway in the near future. In return we offer an excellent pension and salary whilst working for an organisation that values its employees and invests in training and career development opportunities.
