Role: Senior Content Editor
Reporting to: Head of Creative Services
Location: Preston – Hybrid working in place
Hours: 35 per week

Farmers Guardian and parent company Agriconnect are looking for a talented Senior Content Editor to join its busy Creative Services team in its Preston office. You will play a key role in leading the production of our weekly national title and monthly magazines as well as sub-editing copy and laying out news and feature pages.

Responsibilities include project managing the editorial production process and ensuring content is published in house style and on schedule. Fact-checking writers’ articles and optimising written pieces and page layouts to increase user engagement. An understanding of digital content design and delivering digital content across different platforms would be an advantage.

You will have excellent English skills and be able to spot inaccuracies in copy even when up against tight deadlines. Experience of using Adobe Creative Suite and content management systems is essential, as are good communication and time management skills to work successfully across teams. This multifaceted role will require you to work on a range of titles and across different projects to help deliver marketing strategy and business objectives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Day-to-day running of titles in conjunction with head of creative services, taking responsibility for specific projects/titles where/when required.
  • Takes responsibility for specific projects, ensuring they are delivered to the standard required.
  • Sub-editing and proofing content for our portfolio of magazines and other products and platforms.
  • Designing creative magazine pages - including front pages - efficiently while working closely with the rest of the Creative Services team to manage production schedules to meet deadlines.
  • Takes responsibility for writing headlines, captions, etc, and, where required, cuts content to fit without changing its meaning.
  • Ensures all content is legally correct, highlighting potential issues to the appropriate sector head and head of creative services.
  • Ensures all content will drive maximum reader/user engagement through making it look attractive and easy to read/use.
  • Able to create engaging artwork from brief stage to deadline while adhering to our brand guidelines
  • Manage multiple projects from initial brief to sign off, delivering results on time with good communication with stakeholders

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • A meticulous eye for detail to check and edit content according to house style.
  • A high degree of understanding with regard to grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Experience of managing magazine production schedules
  • A creative eye for graphic designing innovative pages and refining content in InDesign and writing imaginative headlines and captions across news and features pages.
  • Creativity, strong typographical and visualisation skills
  • Understanding of design principles and experience of working with briefs/project management
  • Ability to manage your time effectively to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Calm and efficient under pressure, with great communication skills.
  • An understanding of digital content design and delivering digital content across different platforms
  • An understanding of agriculture is preferred but not essential.
