Position: Head Herdsperson

Ref: 2159

Location: Gloucester

The Farm:

This progressive farm is in Gloucestershire and currently milking 350 commercial Friesian x Holsteins cows. The parlour is a 10x20 herringbone and milking is completed twice a day, which is in the process of undergoing improvements and expansions, within this farm's progressive attitude, supplying a premium milk contract so standards need to be high and consistent. The farm rears all its own heifers and stock with buildings and grounds away from the main farmstead, so a drivers licence is essential.

The Role:
We are looking for a head herdsperson to lead in the parlour, completing routine milking, herd health and care within an energetic team. They will be No.1 in leading the milking team, ensuring standards are kept and consistent, training other staff, detecting and treating and an illness etc. Computer literacy would be preferred, with the option to take on more record keeping and use of computer programme for the herd.  The unit runs an all year round calving system for a level milk profile, supplying a premium contract, so high standards and quality of work must be kept. Interest in foot trimming preferred, to pick up lame cows in between the routine foot trimmer visits. AI not essential, as outsourced.

The Applicant:
Experienced in milking and parlour operation, ability to work with and lead a small team, completing practical milking routine and training lesser experienced staff.
Foot trimming will be beneficial but again, training and courses can be available for a keen, enthusiastic applicant.
AI non-essential as it is currently outsourced.
A keen interest in dairying and desire to expand knowledge and progress

Accommodation:

3 bedroom house accommodation available 3 miles from the farm.
