Scottish Government’s Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture (SASA) Division are currently seeking applications for a Farm Manager based at Gogarbank near Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. SASA provides advice and scientific services to the Agriculture and Rural Economy (ARE) Directorate and the rest of the Scottish Government in relation to crops and the environment.
The Farm Manager has a pivotal role in ensuring that the farm and horticultural services required to support certification, trial and research work at SASA are delivered efficiently and effectively.
The Farm Manager will lead a team responsible for delivering farm and horticulture services at SASA, this includes a small commercial arable operation within the farm rotation, the farm extends to 135 Ha or thereby.
This role requires the successful candidate to have experience of managing an arable farming enterprise, preferably one linked to a research or trials operation, and with experience of leading or supervising a team of farm employees.
Current Full Driving Licence required. Due to the fragmented nature of the SASA farm site a considerable amount of driving on public roads is required therefore a full valid driving licence that enables the candidate to drive in the UK is required. However the Scottish Government will consider proposals put forward by applicants to carry out the duties by any other means.
For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a A minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

1 Practical experience of managing an arable farming enterprise ideally one linked to a research or trials operation
2 Good communication skills and an ability to develop and maintain strong effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
3 Experience of having successfully taken responsibility for financial management of a farm enterprise including budgeting and purchasing.
4 Experience of managing or supervising staff in an agricultural or horticultural enterprise.
