Position: General Farm Worker/Dairy Assistant
Our client is seeking an Assistant Herdsperson/ general farm worker to complete a mixed role for their 200 Holstein dairy herd.
The successful candidate will be required to work only about 40-50 hours per week. This role would suit someone who has previous milking experience, with the ability to take responsibility in the parlour and milk independently. They would be completing a share of the milking duties throughout the week, with the rest of the time completing yard and tractor work, general farm work, maintenance and stock work.
This is a mixed role, so wouldn't be in the milking parlour full time and would be shared with the rest of the family run team. There are 2 people on a milking shift together, one in the parlour with the other bringing up cows, yard work and assisting in parlour. This farm has modern facilities, herringbone parlour and cubicle housing for cows in the winter months. The cows are grazed throughout the spring and summer.
The herd is well managed, with high standards to be kept throughout the team. Good dairy hygiene and working practices to be employed by the successful candidate.
The successful applicant will need to be a:
- competent milker
- knowledge of herd care
- detection of problems
- foot trimming & AI useful but not essential
- Yard and tractor work
- Youngstock work
Mobile home accommodation can be provided.
This is a contract position, where the successful person will operate as an agency worker with Farm Solutions. This means that the person will not have sub-contractor responsibilities and all statutory tax deductions and payments will be made by Farm Solutions on their behalf. Hourly pay operates, which includes pay for overtime hours worked.
